• Typically 600,000 lbs or 1 million lbs when locked.
• Moves with travelling block
• Replaces old “bumper sub” used previously

Mud consists of water, Barite, Bentonite and chemicals
Mud weight prevents reservoir pressure escaping
Removes cuttings
Cools/lubricates drill string & bit
Prevents caving
Assists drill bit action (jetting)
Activate down hole motor/turbine




• ROTATING SYSTEM AND DRILLING STRING
Kelly & Rotary Table drill 1 joint at a time.
Power swivel drills in stands (3 x 30’/2 x 45’)
Downhole motor does not require string rotation.
